“Love this sub”

I bought this sub to add a little oomph to my surround system in my bedroom and boy was I impressed, this little sucker rocks almost as hard as the 400 watt I have in my living room.

“Good sub for medium sized rooms”

I bought this sub to add some bass to my existing infinity 2 way P252 tower speakers with my Yamaha receiver, I previously reviewed those speakers as having weakish bass and needed a sub to fill in the lows, I have a medium sized room 15×20 ft and this sub fills in the lows very well for both movies and music. The sub is very well made and heavy, no rattling from it at all ( makes other stuff in the room rattle tho ).

150W is about the minimum I would try for a sub but I have in another smaller room a logitech Z-5500 with the 10″ sub rated at 188w and the infinity with 8″ sub is far more powerful in a larger room, when compared with my older speakers with 12″ subs it is about equal when they are pushed on an old 200w/ch amp. My last project to put a 7.1 system in the living room, which is large, 25x35ft, I don’t think this sub will fill a room of that size fully with bass but I can use it as a reference to see how much more power is needed in a large room. Regardless it will still wake up granny 120ft away 😀

Designed to deliver low frequencies in virtually any car audio system, BassLink truly has universal appeal. Small in size but big in output, BassLink requires a mere .75 cubic feet of trunk space yet produces enough bass to wake up the neighborhood.

BassLink consists of a 10-inch subwoofer, 10-inch passive radiator and a 200-watt Class D amplifier housed in a rigid polymer enclosure, all carefully engineered to work together as a unique, integrated system. The extremely versatile BassLink accepts both speaker- and line-level inputs, and it provides an internal low-pass filter, proprietary signal processing and abundant amplification.

The BassLink system features a servo-control circuit that continually monitors the voice coil’s position in the magnetic gap and prevents the distortion that occurs when a conventional woofer is overdriven. By integrating cone-excursion information with the instantaneous demands of the music, BassLink can extract loud and deep bass from an enclosure smaller than any before.

BassLink includes a fixed, 2nd-order, high-pass filter that eliminates the possibility of over-excursion below Fb, the resonant (tuned) frequency of the vented box. This allows the excursion-monitoring circuit to focus on the excursion at the more meaningful frequencies at and above Fb. The result is a significant increase in bass output.

User-adjustable controls allow listeners to set the system’s response to achieve optimum performance based on the vehicle’s cabin gain or transfer function. These controls include: a 0- or 180-degree phase switch; a continuously variable electronic low-pass filter that is adjustable between 70 and 100Hz; variable input sensitivity; and Bass EQ that provides for adjustments between +3 and -6dB. BassLink’s frequency response in a typical vehicle is 20 to 100Hz (+/-3dB), but this varies according to the vehicle and user adjustments. At maximum gain, the system can accept inputs as low as 250mV.

BassLink can accept up to four channels of input–to provide nonfading bass–either from line-level signals through four RCA jacks or from high-level signals through a pair of Molex connectors, allowing BassLink to be easily connected to OEM systems. If using the speaker-level inputs, an audio-sense circuit will turn on the amplifier whenever a signal is present. If the RCAs are used, a 12-volt, remote-turn-on lead is required. The system has barrier strip connections for power, ground and remote turn-on.

Customer Reviews
“Infinity PS212”

This subwoofer will rattle your house. It is excellent for home theater, but for music I am not impressed. Explosions and crashes and everything that goes bump really comes to life with this subwoofer. However, with music it does not mesh well with my tower speakers no matter what crossover frequency I select and the big 12 inch subwoofer lags a bit behind the 6.5 inch speakers in my towers. When it comes down to it, the bass from this sub is big, but it is also sloppy. 8 inch subwoofers are great for music but not big enough for movies. 12 inch subwoofers are great for movies but don’t quite mesh with music. I recommend getting a 10 inch subwoofer with a good watt rating from a good manufacturer and it should be able to do both movies and music.

“Do not buy this!”

Don’t get me wrong this is a nice sounding speaker. But the failure rate on these things right out of the warranty is pretty crazy. You can find numerous threads about this with a quick search of Google.

I had my Infinity PS12 for about 3yrs and 1 month. I started having a problem with the built-in amplifier cutting on and off during very normal play at any volume level. The speaker would make loud popping sounds as the amp turned on and off. I called Infinity about the issue and they said because it is 1 month out of warranty they won’t cover it. I wasn’t expecting it to be fixed under warranty, but I was expecting they would be able to fix it. I asked if I could just buy a replacement amplifier and guess what they don’t make any parts for the Subwoofer anymore. No way to repair it at all. I even called a few “Authorized Infinity” repair shops and they said they can’t repair it. Same exact story, no parts available for that model anymore. Completely crazy that I basically have to throw this in the trash.

The damn thing was only 3 years old and Infinity drops all support for it. This is a company I will not be buying from again.

“Great sub!”

I have this sub in a less than ideal open living space with 12′ ceilings. Even with all of that air space this sub still gets the job done. Playing Flight of the Phoenix or Cloverfield on Blu-ray will rattle the walls and grab your attention. And perhaps the attention of your neighbors as well.

I have yet to hear this sub distort even in the most intense action sequences. This is probably due to the big 400w RMS amp having plenty of room to put out a clean signal. It produces deep thunderous bass and is probably the best sub in the $300 price range that I’ve evaluated. And if you calibrate it properly it will produce fairly tight and punchy bass sans the annoying boominess found in cheaper subs. However, I will say that the only identifiable weakness is musical reproduction. This is an excellent Home Theater sub woofer, but it’s not so precise for music. Overall this sub gets two thumbs up! However, if you’re looking for an infrasonic HT sub and/or a quality musical sub, then you will need to step up to a SVS or HSU Research.
